About the Recommendations

The immediate goal of the P4T Project is to generate recommendations from planning students to the WPC and WUF on how planners can accelerate ideas into action for urban sustainability.

The recommendations will be created by

  • facilitating a year-long global dialogue on Planners for Tomorrow among planning students, academics and practitioners;
  • using this web site to make the evolving ideas and recommendations available to all who are interested worldwide; and
  • preparing electronic and print documents for strategic circulation, requesting structured responses for presentation to a two-day forum of planning students from around the world at UBC June 15 and 16, 2006 that will finalize recommendations for delivery into the World Planners Congress on June 17 and thence to the WUF on June 19.

As the dialogue unfolds differences in views among the contributors will emerge. It will be important to explore and clarify differing perspectives and their implications for potential recommendations. In facilitating the dialogue the SCARP students will seek to identify where consensus, predominant views and minority perspectives might exist. The general intent is to conduct the process using internet-based communication tools so that draft analyses and recommendations can be progressively refined and brought into the PFT Forum where they would be finalized before taking them into the WPC and WUF. The specifics for how this is to be done will be developed as the dialogue proceeds.
